What Does That Mean?

It’s your favorite question to ask me
When I’ve skipped a step in my logic
Or try to slip a version of the truth past you
And you catch it and throw it back at me.

But it’s also an easy fallback for you
When you don’t know how to feel
Or don’t want to take your turn to speak
And want me to continue revealing myself.

It’s a sign that our conversation has reached
A point beyond what words are capable of,
Where we feel–don’t think, don’t speak–
And communicate in looks and gentle touch.
