God, give me the stormy sea
When weather takes ahold of me–
Throws me and tosses me ’round–
Gently rocking me to sleep.
Forgive now, oh Lord of peace,
When in the time of calmer seas,
I put my trust not in you,
Nor ever fell upon my knees.
And grant me, God, the awful wonder
Of knowing how deep the grace I’m under
With even all the tempestuous disquiet
Of rain and lightning and rolling thunder.
Finally Lord, give me ears to hear
Your voice amidst the stormful year,
And in humility of mind and heart,
Keep me always in Your fear.
